Terms of Service

Last updated October 14, 2026

The short version: you own your business data, you're responsible for how your company uses Northpin (including texting your customers), you pay monthly after a free trial, and you can leave any time and take your data with you.

1. Who these terms are between

These terms are an agreement between Northpin ("we", "us") and the business that signs up ("you", "your company"). The person who creates the account confirms they are allowed to agree on behalf of that business. Everyone your company invites (office staff, crew, bookkeepers) uses Northpin under your company's account.

2. Your account

3. Your data

Everything your company puts into Northpin (customers, jobs, quotes, invoices, photos, expenses and so on) belongs to you. You give us permission to store and process it only to run the service for you. We don't sell it, and we don't use it to market to your customers.

You're responsible for having the right to collect and use the information you enter about your customers, crew and subcontractors, and for keeping tax and legal records your business is required to keep.

4. Messages to your customers

Northpin can send emails and text messages to your customers for you: quotes, reminders, "on the way" notices, portal links and review requests. Before you text a customer, you must have their permission to receive texts from your business. Texts include a way to opt out (reply STOP), and we stop texting anyone who does. Don't use Northpin to send marketing blasts, spam, or anything misleading.

5. Crew location

When a crew member clocks in on the Northpin crew app, their location is shared with your company until they clock out. You must tell your crew this and follow the laws that apply to tracking employees and contractors. Northpin does not track location while someone is off the clock.

6. Payments from your customers

Card and bank payments from your customers are processed by a third-party payment processor under its own agreement with your company. Northpin is not a bank or payment processor and doesn't hold your money. Processing fees, deposits, refunds and chargebacks are between you and the processor.

7. Plans, billing and the free trial

8. Canceling and leaving

You can cancel any time; your plan runs to the end of the period you paid for. You can export your accounts, invoices, payments, expenses and reports as files before you go. We keep a canceled company's data for 90 days in case you come back, then delete it, except where the law requires us to keep records.

9. Fair use

Don't use Northpin to break the law, to harass anyone, to try to get into other companies' data, to overload or reverse-engineer the service, or to resell it without our written permission. We may suspend accounts that do.

10. Availability and changes

We work hard to keep Northpin running and your data backed up, but we can't promise it will never be down or error-free. We improve the service over time; if we remove something important you rely on, we'll tell you ahead of time.

11. Liability

Northpin is provided "as is". To the extent the law allows, we aren't liable for lost profits or indirect damages, and our total liability for any claim is limited to what you paid us in the 12 months before the claim. Nothing in these terms limits liability that can't be limited by law.

12. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Washington, and disputes will be handled in the state or federal courts in King County, Washington.

13. Changes to these terms

If we change these terms in a way that matters, we'll email the account owner and show a notice in the app at least 30 days before the change takes effect.
